About Mrs. Barker

I received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Wheeling Jesuit University and a master’s degree in Statistics from West Virginia University.  I began my career as a mathematical statistician at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention where I worked for 5 years.  In addition to providing statistical analysis for epidemiologists, one of my primary responsibilities was to offer training in statistics.

When I left CDC to be a full-time mom, I continued working on a contract basis for CDC and Emory University.  During that time, I helped develop ActivEpi, an electronic textbook which is still used in the classroom for distance courses at Emory.   I also co-authored two epidemiology textbooks.   In 2009, I was honored to receive the “Outstanding Teaching & Mentoring Adjunct Faculty Award” from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory.  I continue to teach in some short courses at Emory even now.

I am an experienced statistician with a passion for teaching.  I am most excited to bring my experience as a statistician to the classroom!  I began teaching at Milton High School in January of 2011.  I am thrilled to be joining the faculty at Cambridge High School!  Go Bears!

On a personal note, I am married to a wonderful man, Bud.  We recently celebrated our 21st anniversary!  We live in Alpharetta, and we have two children attending Cambridge High School this year.  Matthew is a freshman and Rachel is a senior!  We have a dog named Cheerio.  She’s a mutt!  She’s also an escape artist!
