Chapter 15:  Inference for Regression

Monday April 8.  Review of Regression.  HW:  Look up the conditions for Inference for the regression model and determine whether they are satisified for example 15.1 on page 889.  Note:  If your calculator does not show r or r-square when performing the regression, do the following:  Press 2nd 0 (Catalog), scroll down to DiagnosticOn, and press ENTER.  Press ENTER again to execute the command.  The screen should say "Done".  Then press 2nd ENTER (ENTRY) to recall the regression command and ENTER again to calculate the least-squares line.  The rsquare and r should now appear.

Tuesday April 9.  Inference for Regression.  HW:  Read pages 896-900 do problems 15.6, 15.7 15.9 all except CI.

  1. How to design a simulation to estimate probability.

  2. Define randomness, sample space, sampling with and without replacement.

  3. Probability rules on page 418.

  4. The sum of all of the probabilities in a sample space is 1.

  5. The difference between independent events and disjoint (or mutually exclusive) events. State and give examples.

  6. How to draw and use a tree diagram.

  7. How to draw and use a venn diagram.

  8. The general addition rule for unions on page 438.

  9. The general multiplication rule on page 444.

  10. Conditional probability on page 445.

  11. Tree diagrams revisited (like the homework problem 6.72).
